Wolf Moon – January 12th

One thing I am going to commit to this year is celebrating all of the full moons.  They have so much to offer us if we just take the time to really understand and work with them.

The Full Moon is best used for banishing unwanted influences in your life.  This of it as ‘shining a light’ on issues or challenges.  It can also be a good time for creating protection magik and performing divination.  You can use this time for releasing old patterns or issues, and open the door for healing by giving energy to positive patterns you’ll put in place.  Full Moon magik can be conjured during the 3 days prior to the rise of the Full Moon, the night of the Full Moon, the night of the Full Moon and during the 3 days after.

Normally during a full moon I set out all of my crystals to cleanse them.  I have also started making moon water for cleansing and purifying during the time when the moon is not full and I need a fast solution.

The first full moon of 2017 falls on January 12th and it is the Wolf Moon.  In Native American tradition, this time of year was a time of hunger.  This moon gets its name from the wolf packs that would howl outside of villages during the snowy season.

It is really hard to find any rituals regarding the Wolf Moon.  I have found through some research that this moon is more in tune with rebirth.  Since I like to use fire, candles, and herbs in all of my rituals I would probably start off by writing down things that I want to “get rid of” in my life and burn it.  I came across one ritual where it said to find three items that represent what you want to leave behind and bury them under the full moon.  I feel, however, that burning something is a better way to get that energy back into the universe.

My final opinion…have a bonfire.  Invite a few friends over and have them bring something to burn.  Enjoy the energy surrounding you and soak it in.  Watch as your negative influences burn in the fire.  You can cast a circle if you wish.  Make it your own.  The best part about being Wiccan or Pagan or what ever you want to classify yourself as, is that you get to do these things how you FEEL they should be done.  If you want to use earth as your element in this one, bury your items or list.  It’s up to you.  There is no right or wrong way.
